| Bills do not encourage job creation |
 |
| House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie (D-Chicago) told me in no uncertain terms this week that the General Assembly is destined to once again spend all summer in Springfield. Her comment was in response to my personal plea to her to allow House Bill 5224 to move out of committee for further consideration. Her point was that time is not an issue. |

Another gun bill orchestrated by Chicago Mayor Daley was defeated in the House this week. State Representative Harry Osterman (D-Chicago), a passionate anti-gun advocate, ran for the second time House Bill 758 which would force all private handgun sales or transfers to go through a licensed gun dealer- again, attempting to punish law abiding citizens across the state due to continued gun violence in Chicago. |

| Fed up with inefficient government |

- Many said it wouldn’t happen, but it did thanks to a gutsy legislator. My good friend Jack Franks (D-Woodstock) introduced House Joint Resolution 28 that provides for the recall of state elected officials, including the governor. It required a 3/5ths super majority vote to pass the House and the smart money was betting it would not receive the required 71 votes. It received 75. |

- With only two months left to hammer out a difficult budget of more than $59 billion dollars, the General Assembly continues to meet daily and work through the committee process of creating good government. |
